Oak Tree Presbyterian Church began as a shared dream. A diverse group of individuals from the Oak Tree section of Edison yearned for an ethnically integrated community church to bring the "Good News" of Jesus Christ to the local communities of Edison and South Plainfield. Nurtured in its infancy by both the First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen and the former Marconnier Reformed Church, the new congregation began worship in September of 1963 at the Oak Tree Elementary School (presently JFK's Hartwyck) with the Rev. Dr. Chester M. Davis as the founding pastor. In 1964, a committee was formed to purchase the property on Plainfield Road. After generous financial assistance from the First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen, the Presbytery of Elizabeth and its ninety members, the property was purchased. Construction on the building began in September 1967, and was completed in the Spring of 1968. The first service was held on Palm Sunday, April 7, 1968, with Rev. Robert Seaman as the pastor.
When Oak Tree Presbyterian Church was first started, the congregation was characterized as imaginative, enthusiastic and adventurous.
These characteristics are still alive in the Oak Tree congregation today.
Despite the demographic changes in the Edison area, Oak Tree Presbyterian Church has continued its strong faith
in Jesus Christ and continues to serve the surrounding community with several local mission projects.
The congregation is dedicated and committed to showing God's love and goodness in our daily lives.

The Oak Tree pastors over the past 50 years have shared new and innovative ideas to the congregation
and these are still present today. We worship with the word of God each Sunday and continue to seek new ways to share His "Good News" within our local communities.
